I’m Jeenika (@j33n1k4), and this is my journey in SecureLayer7 as the starting point of my cybersecurity career.

I’m a Computer Science Engineer, but I never knew a world of cyber security existed until I saw an HR post on LinkedIn looking for interns for pentesting. Even though I didn’t know a word about pentesting, I cracked the interview with the basics I had learned from my engineering. They say knowledge never goes to waste, and that’s when I realized it. And well, I got selected, and my journey in this cyber world began with the opportunity to work with Securelayer7.
I was surrounded by really talented and career-driven people around me who were highly focused on their work and those with excellent concepts and substantial experience. This increased my energy level as I went in the right direction. After that, under the guidance of my manager Akshay & my mentor Hridyesh, I started learning many new professional traits and developing new skills.

1. As I learned from my manager, I always begin the project by carefully examining the timescales agreed upon, the availability of the resources, and the appropriate scope division among all the teammates.
2. Make a plan based on the supplied scope’s size and the characteristics it contains. later on, after developing a thorough understanding of the functionalities, creating a mind map of the entire project’s foundation.
3. Start by doing all the recon work, then each day, create adequate test cases that can be executed.
4. Everyone on the team has a different approach, so it’s always good to learn new ways of working with an application. You should continue to follow the guidance as needed and always use reasonable efforts.
5. One of the key things I’ve learned is to always do quality work and properly portray any weaknesses you find. It covers the scope of your application well and tests all kinds of bugs from minor to major impacts to make your application more secure.
So I worked as an “Intern” for 6 months and then later got onboarded full-time as an “Associate Security Consultant” for 2 Years and 4 Months.
The company has held several fun activities with happy hours and fun outings to refresh the spirit, make all teammates more open and make the team feel more comfortable working.

I never felt like I wasn’t given the right platform and opportunity. During my tenure, I received a variety of projects, each requiring a different approach, new team members, and new timelines for implementation.
I have been fortunate to meet people who are talented, inspiring, passionate, and always striving for excellence.
The most important factor in one’s career is the work culture & my experience with SecureLayer7 has always been balancing. The management and team members have proper coordination and equality in all respects, allowing us to express our thoughts freely and share our turmoil to work, which makes the whole journey more. It got interesting in a kinder & more friendly manner.

It was a great experience working with the SecureLayer7 family. They gave me the best platform and the best of opportunities. Your first job, your first company always molds you in a very different way, and thus it marks a starting point of your career, so always be thankful for the firsts in your life.

I’m highly grateful to Securelayer7 for molding me into the pentester that I’m today. Saying goodbye to colleagues can be very difficult. Letting go of the company is one of the most challenging times. You can read more about our team visiting Germany, Japan .
